It’s July and we hope you’re enjoying the summer!

The month of July will be full of cultural and educational experiences waiting for you. If you’re looking for a way to be more involved in your surroundings, look no further. We’ve compiled a list of events happening within easy reach of Zurich that’ll give you the opportunity to explore history, culture, languages, music, art and nature – our top 10 suggestions to get the most out of it. 

Open-air cinema – Allianz Cinema

This July marks the start of Zurich Allianz open-air cinema, an event with open-air cinema in a marvelous location: on the water’s edge of Lake Zurich. Throughout several weeks, audiences will flock to this scenic place to enjoy drinks and food before the show, and watch special pics every day from 21 July until 21 August. The movies are in different languages such as English, German, Swiss-German, French, Spanish, etc.

Ballenberg, Swiss Open-Air Museum

Ever tried living as the people did in the early days? Imagine yourself living without electricity, technology, or cars. You learn everything by experience and apprenticeship. Now you can experience that at Ballenberg open air museum! This place tells the history of Switzerland by showing all the different regions’ ways of living – rural buildings with their unique traditions, fashion and craftsmanship in the buildings’ interiors, farming life on provincial farmsteads, and old tradesmen workshops. On top of learning about an authentic Swiss way of living during that time – combining exercise and learning on walking paths through the countryside!

Swissminiatur

Swissminiatur is Switzerland’s largest open-air museum of miniatures. Located on the shores of Lake Lugano, the museum introduces visitors to Swiss life and culture through miniature scenes. There are 129 models in the 1:25 scale of Switzerland’s most famous buildings, monuments, and means of transport such as funiculars, cable cars, boats and cars.

Fascinating World of Waves

Let yourself be carried away and immerse yourself in the fascinating world of waves – in nature, art, everyday life, and research. Please bring your own headphones, if possible.

Parks and Gardens

Zurich is home to around 70 parks and green areas, which offer places for people to meet, relax and enjoy themselves and their food. There are lots of benches, trees, and grassy spots for a picnic or gathering with friends.

Monet’s Immersive Garden is a 360-degree experiential journey through the life and work of one of the greatest artists of the last century. Illusions transform into reality before the viewers’ eyes, transporting the audience to the heart of Monet’s garden.

Rosenhof Market

At the Rosenhof Market in the picturesque setting of Zurich’s Old Town, you will not only find objects from distant lands, but also original Swiss handicrafts. The items being offered for sale include clothes, jewelry, precious stones, leather goods, handmade pottery, culinary delicacies and antiques.

In the Forest Exhibition

Check out the new exhibition at the Landesmuseum about our relationship with the forest through representation in literature and art: once exaggerated by the romantics as a safe haven from civilization, artists’ depictions of the forest are today dominated by the subject of climate change.
